ABOUT THE AFRICAN JOURNAL OF REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS (AJRR)

The African Journal of Reproductive Rights is a multidisciplinary and international journal that publishes original research, comprehensive review of articles and commentaries on reproductive rights and gender issues in Africa. The Journal strives to share findings on reproductive rights and gender issues and to disseminate innovative and relevant information on this discourse in the African continent and to serve as agents for advocating positive changes on these issues in Africa.

The African Journal of Reproductive rights is a novel publication of the Network for Justice and Democracy (a duly registered and internationally recognized non government organization) dedicated to promoting and defending reproductive rights and gender equality through research, education and advocacy.

The Journal is a scholarly journal which aims to encourage indepth researches into reproductive rights in Africa and globally by providing a rich forum for scholarship and to monitor issues on reproductive rights and gender equality in the region.

To achieve this aim, the Journal adopts a broad based and multi -disciplinary approach to issues on gender issues and reproductive rights. Contributors to the Journal are expected to focus on sexual and reproductive rights, Women’s rights, Gender discrimination, gender equality, gender violence, maternity rights, harmful traditional practices, international legal frameworks on reproductive rights and related issues.

 

Editorial Board

GUIDELINES ON CALL OR PAPERS SUBMITTING A PAPER

All papers submitted must be the original work of the author, and not have been reproduced elsewhere. Papers should be fully referenced and sourced, with full acknowledgments to cited materials. Papers can be submitted in English and should be between 30 and 35 pages with double line spacing.


Consideration of manuscripts
Receipt of all manuscripts will be acknowledged, and after receiving comments from two to three referees, notification of acceptance, rejection or need for revision will be communicated to the author.

Abstracts of 300 words are required for all papers submitted.
To maintain the highest scholarly standards possible, articles will be carefully selected by the peer review committee on the following criteria of academic merit:

  • Quality of content
  • Quality of writing
  • Originality,
  • Objectivity
  • Verifiability (references etc).

Published papers are edited for style and language, and fact-checked for accuracy where possible selected papers will be featured in the journal and the website of the NGO- website (www.justiceanddemocracy.org) with the intention of framing and encouraging rich debates on thematic issues.

Please note that the Journal uses necessary software to screen papers for unoriginal material. By submitting your paper to our Journal, you are agreeing to any necessary originality checks your paper may have to undergo during the peer review and production processes.

Footnotes
Articles should contain footnotes numbered consecutively at the bottom of each page.  
Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (19th ed. 2010). 
Format
Times Roman 12 font is required for all submissions.
Acceptance for Publication:
Once a paper has been accepted for publication, the author grants to the Journal the worldwide nonexclusive right:

  1. to produce, reproduce, publish, distribute, communicate to the public by telecommunication, translate, adapt and use the article in the African Journal of Reproductive Rights in any form whatever (including print or electronic media), and by any technology now known or hereafter developed, either separately or as part of a collective work,
  2. to authorize third parties to reproduce, transmit and distribute the article for the purposes of assisting with the publication of the article in the African Journal of Reproductive Rights.
  3. to authorize third parties to exercise those rights necessary to prepare and include the article in research and document delivery services,
  4. to authorize third parties to duplicate the article for educational use, provided that they are duly acknowledged.
